The Impact of International Sanctions on the Development of Nuclear Program of Iran and the DPRK

This bachelor thesis refers about the effectivity of international sanctions - economic and other types - which have been imposed on regimes in Iran and the DPRK to force these states to abandon any efforts leading to gaining their own nuclear capabilities. First, this thesis deals with defining the international sanctions on the level of international law and then examining both cases of their imposition, Iran and the DPRK. In addition there is also mentioned the Nuclear Deal with Iran which was negotiated as an complex international tool to control the Iranian nuclear program, to manage the imposed sanctions and conditions for sanctions to be lifted. In conclusion there is an assessment of the effectivity of the examined sanctions and if they reached the goals for which they have been imposed and a examines the reasons why the sanctions were quite effective in case of Iran but rather failed in case of DPRK.

The Politics of International Sanctions and their Influence on Economy of Particular Countries - Case of Russia and Iran

Sanctions are one of the ways in which individual states or the international community can enforce their rights and interests. They can vary from banning travel to boycott and embargo affecting the entire country's economy. The sanctions have recently been practiced primarily by the European Union and the United Nations, and by the United States in case of particular countries. The topic of this work is international sanctions against Russia and Iran. Both countries have been in conflict with the international community in recent years, and both countries were punished. In the case of Iran, there were concerns about the use of the Iranian nuclear program for military purposes, the main objective was to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Russia has been the subject of sanctions as a result of violations of international agreements and international law on the basis of the occupation of the Ukrainian Crimea and the development of the military conflict in the East of Ukraine. The thesis describes the reasons, course and impact of sanctions imposed on Iran and Russia, the Iranian and Russian economies and their representatives. At the same time, it seeks to assess the impact of sanctions both in the economic sphere and in terms of changes in the political direction of both countries.

Sanctions within the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy

Sanctions within the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the EU sanctions legislation, with the focus on the most problematic part - sanctions against non-state actors relating to the fight against terrorism. Within this objective I also focus on the analysis of relevant case law, in particular the latest developments at the Court of Justice, which has not yet been sufficiently reflected in the literature. The reason for my research is the intriguing development the application of sanctions has gone through in the EU, regarding the case law and the changes introduced by the Lisbon Treaty. The thesis is composed of five chapters. Chapter One is introductory and defines the term international sanctions and the context of their adoption at the UN level. Chapter Two examines the Common Foreign and Security Policy, which is the tool EU uses for the sanctions application. Chapter Three thoroughly analyses the relevant provisions of the primary law. First part of the chapter focuses on the pre-Lisbon legislation for its importance for the EU case law. Second part provides a detailed insight into the primary law provisions after the Lisbon Treaty and focuses on the latest Court of Justice decision concerning the application of articles 75 and 215 SFEU. Combating terrorist financing from the perspective of a major bank operating in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis deals with implementation of legal framework in fight against financing of terrorism and money-laundering in context of anonymous private financial institutition residing in the Czech Republic. Implementation is exercised on the basis of analysis of internal regulations of the institution, anonymous interviews with Compliance officers and survey of the employees from the branches. The thesis shreds some light on problems regarding implementation and also regarding the knowledge of AML/CFT on the side of employees, who are in daily direct contact with clients. In light of these findings, the thesis suggests need for greater enlightment for these employees.

UN sanctions against Iran

The bachelor thesis UN sanctions against Iran deals with the issue of proliferation and international sanctions - an element in the strategy to prevent proliferation in the Middle East. In order to halt Iran's efforts to become a nuclear state, the UN Security Council adopted several rounds of sanctions targeting mainly Iran's nuclear programme, its trade and finances. However, Iran's continuous defiance of international isolation and political pressure and its refusal to give up the nuclear programme raise the inevitable question of the sanctions' efficacy. The first part of the thesis constitutes an introduction to the issue of international sanctions, it presents the history of Iranian nuclear programme and also the response of the international community not only in the form of sanctions, but also negotiations. It attempts to analyse the security threat posed by Iran, its defending arguments and probable motives. The second and third part of the thesis deal with the sanction measures imposed on Iran. The author examines the individual UNSC Resolutions and their subsequent implementation, gradually moving towards the assessment of the effectivity of sanction measures with an emphasis on economic and psychological impact and how it affects the nuclear programme. Dopad mezinárodních sankcí spojených s Ukrajinskou krizí na ruskou ekonomiku

The economic sanctions in connection with the Ukrainian crisis have been implemented in order to prevent the Russian Federation from interference and escalation of the situation. The main determinant of effectiveness of economic sanctions is costs that are inflicted by these measures. The goal of this thesis is to find out whether economic sanctions have had an impact on the Russian economy. Russia has been experiencing recession since 2014. One of causes is economic sanctions. Statistical analysis within the theory of gravity model of trade confirms that economic sanctions have had impact on the Russian economy. Calculation of economic cost for Russia and political success of economic sanctions requires a separate research.

Analysis of the impact of agriculture on the Czech economy

This thesis deals with the analysis of the impact agriculture has on the Czech economy in the context of Ukraine crisis and international sanctions against the Russian Federation and its embargo on food imports from the EU. Theoretical part of the thesis defines the current status agriculture has in the Czech economy and the main changes that came with Czech Republic joining the EU. The theoretical part also describes main events of the Ukraine crisis and specifications of the sanctions imposed during the conflict. First part of the thesis also includes methodology of the indicators necessary for the practical research and basic terms are defined. The practical part deals with comparative analysis of indicators such as GDP, agricultural producer prices, employment and wage development and economic results in agriculture in the period 2010 - 2014 (in the case of data availability, part of the year 2015 is included). Thesis leads to verfication of the hypothesis and classifies the status of agriculture in Czech economy during last years.
